Frequently asked questions

Learning with Your Native Teacher

Your Native Teacher is a platform for learning a language online that connects students and teachers through video chat. A student can find everything they need in one place, including lectures, materials, and chances to meet and talk with other students. Students can keep track of their learning progress through their own statistics.

Before making your first payment, you can try a free trial session with a tutor to see how well you connect and work together.

At Your Native Teacher, we offer a variety of courses to help you achieve your language learning goals. We specialize in personalized, one-on-one lessons to ensure that you get the individual attention you need to succeed. Additionally, we also offer group lessons for two people who are already matched and want to learn together. Please note that we do not match students for group lessons at this time.

While we do not provide certificates of completion, we do prepare our students to take exams like the TOEFL, IELTS, Goethe, DELE exams and many others. These exams serve as a measure of your progress and proficiency in each language, and can be used for personal or professional purposes.

My Lessons

Our classes are structured to include a mix of interactive activities, lessons, and group discussions. The focus is on practical language use, so that students can immediately apply what they have learned in real-life situations.

You can book a lesson up to a minimum of 12 hours before the scheduled start time of the lesson.

Yes, you can reschedule or cancel your lesson by going to your dashboard under “my lessons” or by clicking „reschedule/cancel” in the appointment confirmation email. Remember that you can only change or cancel a lesson up to 24 hours before it’s supposed to take place.

All our classes are conducted online, using video conferencing software. This allows for real-time interaction with your teacher and classmates, as well as easy access to learning materials.

After scheduling a trial lesson, you’ll receive an email confirmation with all the lesson and teacher details. You’ll receive an email with complete instructions on how to join your lesson on the day of the lesson.

Online classes with international tutors are available 24/7, including weekends. This means you can schedule lessons at your comfort, whether weekdays or weekends!

One hour a week is probably not enough time to explain everything in enough depth. The right amount of tutoring for most students is between 2 to 4 sessions per week. The perfect amount will depend on you and what you need.

All you need is a stable internet connection and a device with a webcam and microphone. All of our lessons are conducted using the Google Meet application. Google Meet is a free and easy-to-use video conferencing software that allows for seamless communication between the tutor and the student during the lesson.

My Tutor

Our teachers are all native speakers and are experienced in teaching the language as a second language. They are passionate about helping students achieve their language learning goals.

We select our tutors based on their native-level language proficiency, teaching background and qualifications, enthusiasm for teaching and professionalism. Our tutors have at least two years of experience and a valid teaching degree. Our goal is to provide the best possible learning experience to our students through the expertise of our experienced and dedicated teachers.

Good news! You can choose the tutor you want to learn with. After you fill out the questionnaire and sign up, you can choose the tutor who is the best fit for you.

Absolutely! If you feel like your current tutor isn’t a good fit for you, you are more than welcome to change to another tutor. It’s important to find someone who understands your learning needs and can help you reach your goals. However, before making any decisions, it might be a good idea to have an open and honest conversation with your current tutor about any concerns or issues you might be having. And remember, your online learning platform is there to support you and help you find the right tutor to fit your needs.

My Subscription

We accept payments for subscriptions via all major debit and credit cards.

You’ll be automatically billed every four weeks for your subscription, and you won’t need to worry about manually making payments each month, because the payment will be taken care of using the debit or credit card you provided. Enjoy your subscription without any hassle.

After a two-month period of tutoring is completed, you may pause the tutoring subscription every three months for two weeks; the pause time is added to the subscription period, which is then extended accordingly. If you are absent for longer than two weeks, your position as a student will be released from the tutor and a new tutor may be assigned to you.

All remaining lessons that were not used by the end of the subscription period will be lost. However, you can avoid losing lessons by scheduling them in your calendar on a day and time that works for you before the end of the subscription period.

You are welcome to upgrade or downgrade your subscription. The changes will take effect on the next billing date.

Through the receipt email of your subscription, you will quickly be able to cancel your subscription.

No, you cannot use the remaining lessons from a previous subscription if you don’t renew your subscription. There must always be an active subscription in order to use the remaining lessons from previous months. If your subscription fails to renew, you will lose access to any remaining lessons from the previous subscription period.

Technical Questions

If you can’t hear your tutor, make sure “Audio on” in the bottom left corner and your device’s microphone are on. Verify your device’s volume and Google Meet audio settings. It is helpful to inform the tutor in the chat as soon as possible so they can troubleshoot the issue.

Yes, you need a Google account to join the lessons.

To join the class, open the confirmation email of your lesson. Look for the button, which may be labeled “Join Class”. This should open the Google Meet application or prompt you to download and install it if you don’t have it already. Once the Google Meet application is open, you will be prompted to enter your name. Turn on your video and audio. Click “Join now” to enter the Google Meet lesson.

If you cannot hear or see anything in the meeting, check your audio and video settings to ensure they are turned on and working properly. You can also try leaving and rejoining the lesson to see if that resolves the issue. If you continue to experience problems, contact your tutor in the WhatsApp group for help.

If your tutor cannot hear you during a lesson, click on the three-dot menu in the bottom right corner and select “Settings”. Under the “Audio” tab, make sure the correct microphone is selected and test it by speaking into it. If the issue persists, try restarting your computer or device or contact us.

Yes, you can join a lesson without the Google Meet application by using a web browser. However, it is recommended to use the Google Meet application for the best experience and functionality during the lesson.
