Frequently asked questions
Learning with Your Native Teacher
Your Native Teacher is an online tutoring platform that connects students with qualified teachers through video chat. Learners can access everything they need in one place, including lessons, study materials, and opportunities to engage with peers. They can also track their academic progress through personalized statistics.
Before making your first payment, you can try a free trial session with a tutor to see how well you connect and work together.
At Your Native Teacher, we make learning easy and personalized. You can choose from a wide range of subjects and enjoy one-on-one lessons designed just for you. If you already have a study partner, we also offer small group lessons for two or three people to learn together. For now, we don’t match students for group lessons—but we’re here to support every step of your learning journey!
We don’t issue official certificates like TOEFL, IELTS, Goethe, or DELE—but we’ll fully prepare you to succeed in them! Plus, you’ll receive a personalized certificate from our tutoring platform to celebrate your progress and achievements. It’s a great way to recognize your hard work and share your success.
My Lessons
Our classes are structured to include a mix of interactive activities, lessons, and group discussions. The focus is on practical language use, so that students can immediately apply what they have learned in real-life situations.
You can book a lesson up to a minimum of 12 hours before the scheduled start time of the lesson.
Of course! You can easily reschedule or cancel a lesson from your dashboard under “My Lessons” by clicking “Reschedule/Cancel.” Just keep in mind that changes can be made up to 12 hours before your lesson starts.
All our classes are conducted online, using video conferencing software. This allows for real-time interaction with your teacher and classmates, as well as easy access to learning materials.
After scheduling a trial lesson, you’ll receive an email confirmation with all the lesson and teacher details. You’ll receive an email with complete instructions on how to join your lesson on the day of the lesson.
Online classes with international tutors are available 24/7, including weekends. This means you can schedule lessons at your comfort, whether weekdays or weekends!
One hour a week is probably not enough time to explain everything in enough depth. The right amount of tutoring for most students is between 2 to 4 sessions per week. The perfect amount will depend on you and what you need.
All you need is a stable internet connection and a device with a webcam and microphone. All of our lessons are conducted using the Google Meet application. Google Meet is a free and easy-to-use video conferencing software that allows for seamless communication between the tutor and the student during the lesson.
My Tutor
Our team includes many native speakers as well as highly qualified teachers who bring years of experience in helping learners from all backgrounds. They’re passionate, supportive, and dedicated to helping you reach your goals while making the learning journey enjoyable and inspiring.
We select our tutors based on their native-level language proficiency, teaching background and qualifications, enthusiasm for teaching and professionalism. Our tutors have at least two years of experience and a valid teaching degree. Our goal is to provide the best possible learning experience to our students through the expertise of our experienced and dedicated teachers.
Good news! You can choose the tutor you want to learn with. After you fill out the questionnaire and sign up, you can choose the tutor who is the best fit for you.
Absolutely! If you feel like your current tutor isn’t a good fit for you, you are more than welcome to change to another tutor. It’s important to find someone who understands your learning needs and can help you reach your goals. However, before making any decisions, it might be a good idea to have an open and honest conversation with your current tutor about any concerns or issues you might be having. And remember, your online learning platform is there to support you and help you find the right tutor to fit your needs.
My Subscription
We accept payments for subscriptions via all major debit and credit cards.
You’ll be automatically billed every four weeks for your subscription, and you won’t need to worry about manually making payments each month, because the payment will be taken care of using the debit or credit card you provided. Enjoy your subscription without any hassle.
After a two-month period of tutoring is completed, you may pause the tutoring subscription every three months for two weeks; the pause time is added to the subscription period, which is then extended accordingly. If you are absent for longer than two weeks, your position as a student will be released from the tutor and a new tutor may be assigned to you.
All your lessons roll over! When your subscription renews, you’ll receive your new set of lessons along with any unscheduled lessons from your previous billing cycle. This way, nothing is lost and you can enjoy learning at your own pace.
You’re always welcome to upgrade or downgrade your subscription—just contact us and let us know what you’d like. The changes will take effect from your next billing date.
You can easily manage or cancel your subscription anytime directly from your student dashboard under the “Subscription” section.
Your unused lessons always roll over to the next month. To use them, you just need to keep an active subscription. If the subscription isn’t renewed, access to the remaining lessons will pause until you reactivate.
Technical Questions
If you can’t hear your tutor, make sure “Audio on” in the bottom left corner and your device’s microphone are on. Verify your device’s volume and Google Meet audio settings. It is helpful to inform the tutor in the chat as soon as possible so they can troubleshoot the issue.
Yes, you need a Google account to join the lessons.
To join the class, open the confirmation email of your lesson. Look for the button, which may be labeled “Join Class”. This should open the Google Meet application or prompt you to download and install it if you don’t have it already. Once the Google Meet application is open, you will be prompted to enter your name. Turn on your video and audio. Click “Join now” to enter the Google Meet lesson.
If you cannot hear or see anything in the meeting, check your audio and video settings to ensure they are turned on and working properly. You can also try leaving and rejoining the lesson to see if that resolves the issue. If you continue to experience problems, contact your tutor in the WhatsApp group for help.
If your tutor cannot hear you during a lesson, click on the three-dot menu in the bottom right corner and select “Settings”. Under the “Audio” tab, make sure the correct microphone is selected and test it by speaking into it. If the issue persists, try restarting your computer or device or contact us.
Yes, you can join a lesson without the Google Meet application by using a web browser. However, it is recommended to use the Google Meet application for the best experience and functionality during the lesson.
